Description

18 years old Scots pine in a plastic bonsai pot. This bonsai is approx. 49cm high.

The Scots pine (also Scotch pine or Baltic pine, botanically Pinus sylvestris, family Pinaceae) is native to Europe and Asia. It is fast-growing and grows up to 40 metres high. The dark green needles of this two-needled pine grow in pairs and are approx. 4-6cm long. The reddish-brown bark is very attractive.

Unfortunately, Scots pine bonsai are rarely offered in the bonsai trade, although they are excellently suited for bonsai design. Both sunny and semi-shady locations are well suited. The Scots pine is absolutely hardy. It can be overwintered well in an unheated foil tent. In a shady location protected from the wind, it can even be overwintered outdoors. Scots pine bonsai can cope quite well with short periods of drought and are rarely attacked by pests.

Repot in early spring. As with most conifers, do not cut back too much of the root ball. Mycorrhiza for conifers can be added to the soil when repotting and is beneficial when growing.

When ordering, you will always get the bonsai displayed on the picture (no. 181-36).

Important note on the size: A bonsai is a tree in a bonsai pot. For this reason the size of the bonsai is in every case the size with the bonsai pot.
