Description of this bonsai
14 years old Cherry plum in a plastic bonsai pot. This prebonsai tree is approx. 51cm high and was made by Bonsaischule Wenddorf.
The cherry plum (also Myrobalan, botanically Prunus cerasifera, Family Roses - Rosaceae) is a fast growing, deciduous tree with typical heights up to 6m. Often it grows with several stems.
The myrobalan flowers abundantly and early (March-April) just before the leaves appear with white, fragrant flowers. The 2 to 3cm sized fruits ripen in June-July and are edible. Originally from Middle Asia the cherry plum grows wild everywhere in europe.
It is used in culture as a graft for different Prunus species (eg Japanese apricot).
The cherry plum is very suitable for bonsai design. It is fully hardy, has fine branches and plenty of fine flowers.
When ordering, you will always get the bonsai displayed on the picture (no. 141-23).
