Fertilisation: From March to September, fertilize generously with commercially available bonsai fertilizers such as Biogold, Hanagokoro or liquid bonsai fertilizer

Irrigation: Water a lot in summer. Keep moderately moist in winter.

Pruning: Cut back vigorously 2-3 times from May to early August with a sharp bonsai scissor (the wood is very soft). Stronger branches are removed with concave pliers for bonsai. Seal large incisions with wound sealant

Overwintering: As an indoor bonsai (Chinese elm) hibernate in a very light and as cool place as possible. However, it also tolerates temperatures below 0°C very well. The other elm species can be well overwintered in an unheated greenhouse

Repotting: Repot an elm bonsai approx. every 3-4 years at beginning of march in a well-drained bonsai soil (for example Akadama) with strong root-cut
