Description

18 years old Japanese black pine in a bonsai pot. This bonsai is approx. 43cm high and was imported directly from a japanese bonsai nursery.

The Japanese black pine (Japanese Kuromatsu - 黒松, botanical Pinus thunbergii, family Pinaceae - Pinaceae) is an evergreen, two-needled coniferous tree. It is native to Japan and Korea and reaches 30-35m in height in the natural habitat.

The needles are usually 5-8cm long (in varieties such as Kotobuki much shorter) and very prickly. The thick, cracked, black-grey bark is very attractive with age. The Japanese black pine is a classic bonsai species that has been cultivated as bonsai in Japan for hundreds of years. For this reason, many old and good solitaires are on offer.

After pincing / cutting back the candles from the spring, a black pine forms new candles in the summer. With this second budding, good results can be achieved quickly when designing.

As a hardy conifer, the Japanese black pine tolerates temperatures well below 0°C. It is a very light-hungry tree species and should be placed as bright and sunny as possible. A well-drained bonsai soil (such as Kiryuzuna) is recommended for repotting.

When ordering, you will always get the bonsai displayed on the picture (no. 183-14).

Important note on the size: A bonsai is a tree in a bonsai pot. For this reason the size of the bonsai is in every case the size with the bonsai pot.
